Hi, and thank you in advance for your response. My name is Maggie I bought some sunflower sprouts but they charged me a lot of money for a little bit so I would like to grow my own. Can you tell what kind of seed tray should I buy and if need to make drainage holes underneath, thanks.

Sprouting Trays
by: Amanda

Hi Maggie,

I grow the sunflower sprouts in a sturdy reusable seed trays that are a little larger than A4. The trays I use are roughly 15 x 2.5 x 9 inches.

I'm based in the U.K and they are what I found at my local garden centre.

You can find them on amazon.com, but they are rather pricey especially with the postage. This is the green tray that I use indoors. It's a solid tray so when I water the sprouts I have to be careful not to overwater.

I also use similar trays with drainage holes which makes watering much easier as the excess simply drains away and means I can happily leave them outside if it's raining without fear of the sprouts drowning:

The trays are designed so that the black tray with the drainage holes fits inside the green tray to protect your indoor furniture and windowsills. When I grow indoors I often just use the solid trays and am careful not to overwater.

Hope this helps,
Amanda
