Wheatgrass juice is amazing stuff. This potent green juice is one of the best sources of chlorophyll. A shot of fresh wheatgrass juice is my favorite green superfood. Packed full of easily digestible vitamins and minerals, it is able to help heal and detoxify the body.
To maximize the health benefits of drinking wheatgrass drink it fresh, straight after juicing. This may mean a trip to your local juice bar, if your lucky enough to live near one, or growing and juicing wheatgrass yourself at home.
Juicing wheatgrass can be a little scary at first. It is seriously green, and powerfully medicinal. To make your own wheatgrass juice you will need to get your hands on a wheatgrass juicer and a fresh supply of wheatgrass. You can buy wheatgrass online or grow your own.
To learn how to grow wheatgrass for juicing visit my how to grow wheatgrass page. It's suprisingly easy to grow and looks beautiful on the windowsill when the light shines through it!
If you prefer to leave the growing to someone else you may be able to buy wheatgrass online depending on where you live.
Tip: The easiest way to juice wheatgrass is to have all the blades pointing the same way, and feed it base first into the juicer.
Feed in one handful of wheatgrass at a time. This lets the juicer to get a good grip so it can pull the grass right down into the juicer to be crushed to make fresh wheatgrass juice.
Wheatgrass juice is very potent, and more isn't necessary better. A daily drink of 1oz (about 30ml) of wheatgrass is recommended to start with, increasing to 2oz (60ml) after a couple of weeks as long as it makes you feel good. It's a good idea to drink it on an empty stomach. A shot glasses holds 2oz of juice.
When I first started to drink wheatgrass I used to dilute it with the same amount of water, and drink it slowly. These days I tend to hold my nose (I just don't like the smell!) and drink it down in one.
As an alternative to drinking in neat, you can also add it to freshly squeezed apple juice. Here's a recipe for apple, celery, lemon and wheatgrass juice.
